Paolo Gerolamo Piola. 1666-1724. Genovese School 17th.Century. Pen ink and wash drawing. Study of a standing figure. Provenance: John Clermont Witt his collection stamp to backing sheet. (L.646a.). 27 by 8 cms. Old attribution to mount to Domenico Piola the artist's father.

Paolo Gerolamo Piola, Genovese born baroque artist the son of Domenico. He studied in Rome under Carlo Maratta, very much influenced by the work of Carracci, he is mainly known for painting sacred subjects and interior frescoes, for which the present drawing is probably a design.
