Janet Cumbrae Stewart was a noted Australian pastellist active in the early 20th century. She trained in Melbourne and exhibited widely in Australia before moving to Europe where she remained for 17 years exhibiting at The Royal Academy, The Paris Salon and the Galérie Beaux-Arts. WW2 forced her return to Melbourne, where she remained with her partner Miss ‘Bill’ Bellairs, until her death in 1960.
