Newton Limbird Smith Fielding 1799-1856. Natural history watercolour study of a tufted duck. 12.5 by 18.5 cms. Provenance: Appleby Bros. London.

The youngest son of artist Nathan Fielding. He is best known for his paintings and engravings of animals. Besides painting in water-colours, he also produced etchings, aquatints, and lithographs, becoming especially proficient in the last of these. He moved to Paris where he lived until his death, he was much esteemed there, entering the 1827 Paris Salon and being appointed Tutor to the family of Louis Phillipe.
