Born in London the son of a German born wine merchant, Strube studied at St Martin’s School of Art. Encouraged to take up cartooning by the artist, John Hassall. He became one of the most popular cartoonists of the inter-war period, highly sought after, he was political cartoonist for the Daily Express for over 35 years.
